About the Organization and Opportunity

Organization: Senesco Marine builds large steel and aluminum vessels - barges, tugs, and ferries - and the people who do that work are welders, fitters, machinists, painters, crane operators, marine electricians, naval architects, project managers, and much more. Whether you’re an outside or inside person there may be a spot for you. Many of our best started right out of high school and grew to their roles- including the executive leadership team. This visit is designed to put those career opportunities on the radar for students who are old enough to think about what comes after graduation and ready to earn an honest living while working hard at the best shipyard on the east coast.

Opportunity:

The 2-hour (10am-12pm) visit includes a Safety briefing and Personal protective equipment (every student is issued a hard hat, hearing protection, and safety glasses).

  • A thorough presentation of how the Shipyard operates.

  • Walking tour of the yard. Students see vessels at different stages- steel being cut and shaped, hulls under assembly, and finished work heading to the water. Depending on what's on the ways that week, this may include the fabrication shop, welding areas, the paint crew, and the launch area.

  • Trade demonstrations. Students watch welding / plate cutting / fitting up close and see what the work actually looks like, including the precision and problem-solving it requires.

  • We end with some company swag that students don't want to miss out on!

Please Note: Steel toe boots are required. No phone usage while walking- pictures are okay as long as you stop to take them. Pictures can't be taken if it includes General Dynamics Electric Boat in the background. We encourage sharing our work and your students' experiences!
