About the Organization and Opportunity

Organization: CS4RI (Computer Science for Rhode Island) is a state initiative launched in 2016 by the Office of Governor Gina Raimondo to bring high quality computer science (CS) learning experiences to all students.  It represents a partnership between Rhode Island state government, the Rhode Island Department of Education, K-12 schools, higher education, private industry, and non-profits across Rhode Island.

Opportunity: This one-semester academic course teaches students about the software development process used in industry including units on CS Workplace, Ideation, Design, Implementation, and Testing. The course makes extensive use of videos provided by Google on the software development process. Students work in teams with an Industry Mentor to follow the process, working with tools such as GitHub, to create a website for a community organization, for an existing business, or as a start-up company.
