URI Navy STEM and STEMHer Computer IT Workshop

Organization: The mission of the URI-UConn Navy STEM Coalition is to build a strong community of regional stakeholders who occupy roles within academia, the naval technology industry and government organizations, who are united by their shared commitment to develop a STEM workforce that will support both the regional and national Navy enterprise in the coming years.

Opportunity: Workshop Overview Day 1: Students will learn about computer parts and their functions, as well as how the internet works. The day will include plenty of hands-on activities and interactive memorization games. (We strongly recommend attending this day, as it lays the foundation for the rest of the workshop.) Day 2: Students will create Wix accounts, begin brainstorming website ideas, and explore various career paths in IT. We are also working on arranging a visit to the URI IT department to give students a real-world perspective of IT operations. Day 3: Students will finalize their websites, showcasing their favorite computer components, and present their projects to the group. At the end of the day, they will receive certificates of completion!
